Why Glassinvenice Exists

Glassinvenice is a small independent blog about glass and the city that made it famous. It is written for travellers planning a first visit, for collectors who want to understand what they are looking at, and for people who simply like knowing how Venice works when the crowds go home.

Three subjects, one city

The site is organised around Murano Glass, Venice Exhibitions and Venice Life. They feed each other. A furnace demonstration makes more sense after a museum show on glass history, and both are easier to enjoy when you know how the vaporetti, the tides and the opening hours behave.

  • Murano Glass looks at techniques, styles, how to tell hand-made work from imitation, and what to ask before buying a piece.
  • Venice Exhibitions covers shows, galleries and museum displays, with notes on what is worth planning a day around.
  • Venice Life gathers practical observations on getting around, eating sensibly, seasons, high water and living alongside visitors.

How we approach the work

Articles aim to be useful on the day you read them. Facts about glassmaking history and technique are checked against museum texts, published craft references and the statements of the workshops themselves. Exhibition details are compared with the organisers’ own announcements. Where something is a matter of taste or can change with the season, the article says so plainly.

Venice changes quickly: shows close, timetables shift and rules for visitors are revised. Pages are revisited and updated when a detail no longer holds.

Who reads it

Readers range from curious first-timers to people who know the lagoon well and want a second opinion on one question. Nothing here assumes a large budget or a long stay.
